揮發(fā)性有機硫化物（VOSCs）是自然界硫循環(huán)的重要組成部分。二甲基硫醚（DMS）、甲硫醇（MT）、羰基硫（COS）、二硫化碳（CS2）和二甲二硫（DMDS）是大氣中重要的揮發(fā)性有機硫化物（VOSCs）。其中，DMS占全球總VOSCs排放量的75％以上。DMS具有高反應活性，能夠與大氣中自由基發(fā)生氧化反應生成 SO2、甲基磺酸（MSA）等，對酸雨的形成有重要貢獻；其次，這些產物可形成云凝結核（CCN）和硫酸鹽氣溶膠，對地球輻射平衡和氣候變化有著重要的影響。MT的在大氣中的反應活性更高，極易被大氣中的自由基氧化生成SO2和硫酸鹽（SO2-4）等，同樣對大氣環(huán)境有著重要的影響。微生物降解含硫氨基酸（尤其是甲硫氨酸）是自然界中 DMS和 MT產生的重要來源之一。
